According to the Vegan Society, veganism is a way of living which seeks to exclude, as far as is possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose.
There are many ways to embrace a vegan lifestyle, and people find veganism from all walks of life. You do not need to be rich or privileged to be vegan, you do not have to endorse a particular religion, political stance, or philosophy. Vegans are a diverse bunch of people, and not all vegans agree on how best to, for example, eat a plant based diet. However, one thing that unites all vegans is the desire to work towards the abolition of animal exploitation and cruelty.
All vegans eat a totally plant-based diet, whether that be a healthy one filled with delicious whole foods, or one filled to the brim with vegan junk food. Veganism is not about perfection. As long as you do not consume animal foods such as meat (including fish, shellfish and insects), dairy, eggs and honey - as well as avoiding animal-derived materials, products tested on animals and places that use animals for entertainment - as far as is possible and practicable, then you are vegan!
